Multi-mode (MM) is suitable for short distances (up to 550 m) and less expensive to procure. Single-mode (SM) bridges distances up to 120 km and is used for long runs between buildings or sites. Please specify the distance you need to bridge when inquiring.
Yes, the media converter operates transparently at Layer 2 – it appears to all connected devices like a simple cable. No configuration changes to your switches or routers are required.
With multi-mode fiber (50/125 µm) up to 550 m is possible. With single-mode fiber you can reach distances up to 120 km – depending on the wavelength and SFP module used. We advise you on the selection.
